CULTURE GAD
The Music Never Stopped
Remembering Richard “Culture Gad” Jones
June 1, 1970 – May 13, 2026
Some people play music.
Others live it.
For more than five decades, Richard “Culture Gad” Jones carried reggae music in his heart, his soul, and ultimately into the homes of listeners across the globe through Reggae Nostalgia Internet Radio.
Born on June 1, 1970, in Kingston and St. Andrew, Jamaica, Richard was a man of many identities. On the football field, he was known as “16,” “Ka Brochi,” and “Cobra”—a competitor whose presence was respected by teammates and rivals alike. Behind the microphone, however, he became known to thousands of listeners by a different name: Culture Gad.
For fourteen years, Culture Gad served as a valued member of the Reggae Nostalgia Internet Radio family, hosting the popular program The Culture Gad Experience. His broadcasts reflected not only his deep appreciation for reggae music but also his commitment to preserving the culture and spirit that gave birth to the genre.

Those who knew him personally often described him as a man of contrasts. He could be outspoken and passionate when discussing music, culture, and life, yet naturally quiet and reserved in everyday conversation. He preferred authenticity over attention and substance over popularity.
Listeners quickly became familiar with his trademark greeting, “Wha Gwaan?” Whether tuning in from Jamaica, Florida, New York, Canada, England, or elsewhere around the world, hearing those words meant they were about to embark on another musical journey with Culture Gad.
His broadcasting style was never forced. He spoke from experience, selected music from the heart, and remained true to the roots of reggae culture. It was this authenticity that earned him the respect of fellow broadcasters, selectors, artists, and listeners alike.
Away from the Radio, Richard enjoyed sharing music at community events and gatherings. Wherever reggae music was being celebrated, there was a good chance Culture Gad would be there, helping to create an atmosphere of unity, reflection, and enjoyment.
The photographs accompanying this tribute tell the story of the man many came to know and respect. Whether seated behind the microphone or carefully selecting tracks for his audience, his commitment to reggae culture never wavered.
His passing on May 13, 2026, has left a tremendous void within the Reggae Nostalgia Internet Radio family and among reggae lovers worldwide. Yet while his physical presence may be gone, his contributions remain.
Every recording, every playlist, every broadcast, every greeting of “Wha Gwaan?” continues to echo through the memories of those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
At Reggae Nostalgia Internet Radio, Culture Gad was more than a broadcaster. He was a brother, a friend, a mentor, and a guardian of reggae music’s rich traditions.
Today we celebrate not only his life but also his legacy.
The microphone has been set down.
The music, however, continues.
